River Road, the site of a broken 66 inch water pipe , will remain closed until repairs are completed.  The disaster may involve more repairs than anticipated.  Pipe deterioration proved to be more extensive than crews originally thought.

Authorities have inspected nearly two thousand feet of pipe since the incident.  They report that the broken section needs to be replaced in addition to three other sections.

The pipes are buried fifteen feet deep.  A hole equaling fifty by thirty feet has been created so that crews can work.

Washington Gas is also present at the scene to secure a gas line that runs along the road.

It is reported that it will take more than six weeks to complete an investigation into the cause of the Dec. 23 break.

The Maryland Bee will keep commuters updated.
