Dante A. Paire, a Washington DC firefighter, shot his former fiancée, Jessica A. Wimbush before committing suicide yesterday afternoon. The attack occurred around 4pm according to Prince George’s County Police.
Ms. Wimbush and her parents were wounded by the shots. Their injuries are not fatal. A two year old who was present during the attack has emerged unharmed.
After having met at work, where they were both firefighters, Wimbush and Paire began a relationship. The relationship eventually turned sour and Wimbush obtained a restraining order in 2007, she eventually had the order dismissed. Another firefighter had since obtained another type of restraining order against Paire and it would have been required he appear in court. He did not make it because of his suicide.
Paire’s fire department service was suspended before the attack. It is not clear which specific circumstances resulted in his suspension.
