St. Mary’s County is located in southern Maryland adjacent to Charles and Calvert counties and is bordered by the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. According to the 2000 census, the population is approximately 86,000. Most of the county is rural and suburban with over 20,000 living in the Lexington Park and California areas close to naval facilities. Police report limited gang activity and no known gang crime.

Gangs are a limited problem in St. Mary’s County. There is some evidence of a white gang called MOB. Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMGs) travel in the county, especially at the annual blessing of the bikes event. At this time, there is no known (reported) gang related crime.
