New legislation requiring immigrants to verify that they are legal residents of Maryland State before they are licensed to drive is now in the works.

The current transportation secretary Mr. Porcari has identified the issue as critical.  He has indicated it is essential the Maryland State Assembly act soon.

By 2010 the Federal Government will be requiring additional identification and security measures at all state licensing facilities.

In spite of additional costs and special interest group’s protests it is expected that O’Malley or the State Transportation Agency will introduce a related bill in the near future.
