A jury ruled in favor of Andrea McCarren, an award winning investigative journalist for Channel 7, on January 16th.
McCarren sued Prince George’s County after a 2005 incident in which the County Police detained her and her cameraman Mr. Hakel. The pair were ordered out of their car at gunpoint. Nearly ten officers then surrounded McCarren, many had drawn their weapons. Luckily Hakel captured the incident on film. Authorities denied there was a car cam on any of the police cruisers though they are a legal requirement.
The incident occurred during a time when McCarren was investigating police and County Government corruption.
The petite reporter who weighs less than 115 lbs reported multiple injuries because of related police brutality.
The finding was the police used excessive force, injured Andrea, and violated her constitutional rights.
County officials oddly enough said they felt vindicated.
